The Department of Health Management is seeking a qualified student assistant for laboratory and field work to provide support for ongoing projects within the Shellfish Research Group. This position is subject to budgetary approval.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out laboratory and field procedures related to research activities involving shellfish health and production within the Maritime Provinces. Specific responsibilities include: SCUBA diving, collection of specimens from wild or cultured shellfish stocks, performance of health assessment and condition index of submitted specimens, trimming and fixation of tissues for histological analysis, use of field and laboratory equipment, updating and maintenance of Laboratory MSDS lists, collection of field data, input of data using computers and associated software, assisting with report writing.
Applicant must have previous experience working in an aquatic environment as well as a laboratory environment. Applicants must have SCUBA certification. Effective time-management skills are required. Applicant must be self-motivated, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
