The Department of Biomedical Sciences invites applications for a part-time (20 hours per week) temporary term position responsible for the design, conduct and analysis of neurobehavioural testing protocols as part of a large, multi-centre project to develop a new rodent model of Parkinson’s Disease.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and validate standardized protocols for relevant aspects of rat behaviour
• Design data collection templates and spreadsheets for behavioural tests
• Conduct relevant behavioural tests in rats
• Analyze data using commercial video-tracking software (AnyMaze)
• Perform statistical analyses using SPSS
• Assist with routine animal husbandry where required
• Train undergraduate and graduate students on proper conduct of behavioural assays and data analysis
• Assist in the preparation of papers and posters in areas of responsibility
• Assist other members of the research team with general laboratory maintenance and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS:

• The successful candidate will have a university-level degree in neuroscience (or equivalent) and demonstrable experience in laboratory-based rodent behavioural tests
• A thorough knowledge of the theoretical and practical aspects of tests for sensory, motor and cognitive function is essential
• Familiarity with relevant video-tracking software and statistical software (preferably SPSS) appropriate to the collection and analysis of behavioural data
• Additional relevant education and/or experience is an asset
• Demonstrated ability to work collegially and effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment with minimal supervision is also necessary
• History of training and overseeing research students in rodent husbandry and testing is a definite asset
