The role of the Security Services Division is to protect and provide for the ongoing safety of the people, property, and information resources of the university community and to provide students, faculty, staff, and visitors with a secure environment in which to live, work, study, and play 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The University of Prince Edward Island Security Services is seeking to hire a permanent full time Manager who will be responsible to maintain the daily operating and coordination of the Security Department and its staff members. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for day to day management of the Security Services department including any administrative and staffing responsibilities.
• Develop a strategic plan for the Security Services Division, which will include a 5 year parking management strategy that considers the latest technology and UPEI’s Strategic plan.
• Assist and direct in criminal investigative procedures and establish new policies and procedures as required.
• Administer parking management and traffic control programs.
• Direct fire safety inspections, supervise drills and report code violations and hazards.
• Act in the capacity of liaison and advisor in the area of emergency response and operations, and provide support as outlined in the University’s Emergency Management Plan.
• Liaison with the University community and external agencies as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Successful completion from an accredited police science program is required.
• A related university degree, management training or business course would be an asset.
• A minimum of five years experience with a law enforcement department, security department, or military organization, with at least three years experience in a supervisory/management capacity in an enforcement related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• Experience with computers is required and knowledge of security systems would be an asset.
• Strong human relations abilities, excellent oral and written communications skills and demonstrated leadership abilities.
• Sound understanding of the Criminal Code along with financial skills in budget management and revenue generation.
