Sessional Instructor - Faculty of Education (Fall 2017) *REPOST*
The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a sessional instructor to teach the following course in the Fall Session 2017.
ED-3730 Special Needs of Adult Learners
In this course, students are introduced to inclusive education and become aware of the issues and characteristics of adults with special needs. The course gives an overview of some common learning difficulties and challenges. It also provides suggestions for teaching strategies to encourage adults to learn from their strengths and increase independence. Of particular interest is the use of assistive technology, self-advocacy, and awareness of services available to adult learners. Also explored are secondary issues related to special needs and adults.
This is a three-semester hour course offered in a blended format to students in the BEd (HRD)/CAE program. The course is offered from September 11th-December 1, 2017, on Wednesdays from 6pm-9pm
Qualifications:
Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system. For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Where courses are offered on-line using multi-media technologies, applicants will normally be able to demonstrate successful on-line teaching experience. Candidates who do not have previous online teaching experience must be open to and willing to do extra training for this delivery model, and without additional compensation.
In addition, candidates applying to teach graduate courses will normally have established expertise, and successful leadership and/or teaching experience in a context related to the foci of the cohort.
In all instances, qualified applicants on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the Faculty of Education will be given priority.
THE OFFERING OF THESE COURSES IS CONDITIONAL PENDING FINAL ENROLMENT NUMBERS. ALL SESSIONAL COURSES ARE SUBJECT TO THE FINAL BUDGETARY AND ADMINISTRATIVE APPROVAL. THE AVAILABIILTY OF THESE SESSIONAL POSITIONS IS CONDITIONAL ON THE FINALIZATION OF REGULAR FACULTY MEMBER WORKLOAD DISTRIBUTION.
