The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following courses in the Fall Session 2017.

ED-4040  Curriculum and Planning / Planification et programmes d’études (3 sections)

In this course, students will develop the conceptual understanding and practical skills of lesson and unit planning as they pertain to curriculum. Foci include curriculum integration; project based learning; social action curriculum; understanding by design; experiential learning; outcomes and competencies assessment; coupling assessment with instruction; and various theoretical conceptions of curriculum, such as the hidden, null, void, and lived curriculum.

This is a one-semester hour course offered Monday to Friday on-campus to students in our Bachelor of Education program from August 21st to September 1st. Section 1 is offered to our Primary/Elementary English cohort from 9:00am-12:00pm, Section 2 is offered to students in our Intermediate/Senior cohort from 1:00pm-4:00pm, and Section 3 is offered in French to students in our BEd (français langue seconde) program from 1:00pm-4:00pm. 

ED-4050  Creating a Climate for Learning: Effective Classroom Management / Climat organisationnel: Gestion de classe efficace (1 section)

The focus of the course will be on establishing a positive classroom climate to help students become responsible for their learning, behaviours and choices. Foci include strategies to promote student motivation, build positive student- teacher relationships, and develop partnerships between parents and school.

This is a one-semester hour course offered Monday to Friday on-campus to students in our Bachelor of Education program from August 21 to September 1. ED-4050-3 is offered in French to students in our BEd (français langue seconde) program from 1:00pm-4:00pm. 

ED-4540  Sciences Humaines à l'élentaire (1 section)

This course promotes dynamic teaching methods and inclusive approaches to inspire young learners and to elevate the quality of teaching and learning through Social Studies at the Primary/Elementary levels. Grounded in the needs of twenty-first century learners, this course offers concrete ways to create more vibrant, engaging, playful, supportive and inviting environments for this core curriculum area to give all learners dignity and honour their diverse ways of learning.

This is a three-semester hour course offered on campus in French to students in our BEd (français langue seconde) program on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30am—11:20am from September 5th to October 18th.

ED-6250  Curriculum: Leadership in Learning (1 section)

In this course, students examine research into recent curriculum developments which are based on principles of integration, resource-based learning, and holistic learning, and which require the use of alternative assessment approaches. In addition, the impact of these developments on teachers' instructional strategies and students' learning are investigated. The focus is on the integration of knowledge about curriculum design and teaching in order to develop leadership skills for curriculum change.

This is a 12-week, three-semester hour course offered on-line from September 6 to December 1 to students in our MEd Focus on Mathematics Education.

Qualifications:
Successful candidates will normally have school-based experience in a Canadian public K-12 system.  For applicants without school-based experience, teaching in other contexts relevant and appropriate to the position will be considered. Where courses are offered on-line using multi-media technologies, applicants will normally be able to demonstrate successful on-line teaching experience.  Candidates who do not have previous online teaching experience must be open to and willing to do extra training for this delivery model, and without additional compensation.

In addition, candidates applying to teach graduate courses will normally have established expertise, and successful leadership and/or teaching experience in a context related to the foci of the cohort.

In all instances, qualified applicants on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the Faculty of Education will be given priority. 

THE OFFERING OF THESE COURSES IS CONDITIONAL PENDING FINAL ENROLMENT NUMBERS.   ALL SESSIONAL COURSES ARE SUBJECT TO THE FINAL BUDGETARY AND ADMINISTRATIVE APPROVAL.  THE AVAILABIILTY OF THESE SESSIONAL POSITIONS IS CONDITIONAL ON THE FINALIZATION OF REGULAR FACULTY MEMBER WORKLOAD DISTRIBUTION.
