STUDENT ASSISTANT - WALKING FOR WELLNESS PROGRAM
Hours of Work: 

Up to a total of approximately 180 hours before August 31, 2012, with approximately 10 hours, per week, until April 30, 2012.

Salary: 
$10.74 per hour (vacation pay included)

A researcher in the Sociology/Anthropology Department and two researchers in the Nursing Department are undertaking a research project from the East Prince Seniors Initiative (EPSI) Walking for Wellness Program in East Prince. We require a research assistant to assist with data entry and analysis with qualitative and quantitative data. This project is funded by EPSI.

The student assistant to the researchers will report to them on progress through updated reports. The successful candidate will provide staff support to this team as necessary
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. data entry using SPSS
2. data analyses as appropriate for the data
3. interpretation of results
4. assisting with report writing
5. assisting with the preparation of documents generated by the research team, in general, for internal use, and for publication
7. establishing and maintaining a paper and electronic filing system
8. assisting with analyzing focus group data
9. qualitative analysis report writing
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will be either a full-time undergraduate student, preferably in his or her third or fourth year of an undergraduate degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Nursing, or a related field, or a graduate student in his or her first year of a Masters degree in a related area. The candidate will be a highly-organized individual with interviewing experience and quantitative and/or qualitative research methods and analysis. Experience with, or a general interest in and understanding of, seniors issues is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, as well as proficiency in the use of SPSS, Microsoft Word/Wordperfect, and Excel. Occasional travel may be required, but will be subsidized.
