$11.51 per hour (vacation pay included)

Between May 6th, 2013 to August 23rd, 2013 (12 weeks – negotiable what weeks are worked)

To participate in research in Human-Computer Interaction and Computer Science Education through assisting in the design and implementation of an online Integrated Development Environment for the Java and Python programming languages. The student will work under the direction and in collaboration with a faculty member, and remotely with a team of students at the University of Saskatchewan. The position will initially involve independent learning to get up to speed on the necessary technologies and techniques needed to implement and design an online IDE, including learning any relevant web, database and source-code control technologies. The student will then work with the research team to formulate and document the basic design for the IDE. Finally, the student will be responsible for implementing, integrating and testing important parts of the technology.
The successful candidate(s) should have completed at least two years of a Computer Science undergraduate degree. Students must be willing to work independently, to proactively research best practices and alternative approaches, to keep track of their work activities, to present their work to members of the research team, and be able to work well in a team. All interested candidates are encouraged to apply, but priority may be given to students with experience in web development, and/or who have completed CS 206. Knowledge or skills of HTML, Javascript, Python, Java, databases, and Linux would be considered assets.
