This is a one year term position within the Department of Companion Animals with some work to be carried out within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.  During the academic year, the position will work with the Department of Companion Animals. The remainder of the year will be spent within the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) in a flexible, floating technical position.


70% - This position will:
• Support the teaching activities of faculty members in the Department of Companion Animals
• Provide technical support in the form of lab preparation and technical assistance during and after the laboratory sessions for 6 veterinary medicine laboratory courses
• Monitor, advise and assist veterinary students who are participating in departmental courses
• Maintain supplies and ensure proper equipment maintenance within the laboratory as required
• Provide technical support for teaching animals and departmental research

30%   This position will be responsible for:
• Completing treatment and diagnostic orders for patients in the Small Animal VTH on various services as needed
• Monitoring progression of patients in the VTH
• Monitoring, advising and assisting veterinary students who are participating in case management activities within the Small or Large Animal Hospital
• Maintaining supplies and ensuring proper equipment maintenance within the VTH as required
• Maintaining high standards of cleanliness 


• Graduate of an AHT program from a recognized school with RVT designation
• Current experience with small and large animals
• Excellent oral communication skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team
• Excellent organization and time management skills
• Basic computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Be self motivated and able to work independently in a versatile work environment

Experience in a referral practice is valuable. Experience within multiple disciplines is essential; e.g. anaesthesia, surgery, and internal medicine. Experience with techniques such as (but not limited to): chemotherapy administration, endoscopy support, critical care patient management, wound management, and bandaging is highly desirable.
