The Department of Biology at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors during the forthcoming Fall 2016 semester. These appointments are subject to final budgetary approval.

BIO 309 – “Parasitology”

This course will be an introduction to the ecology and evolution of parasites with a focus on evolutionary adaptations of parasites themselves, and the hosts that try to resist them.  Lectures will introduce parasite life cycles, review the evolutionary principles related to host and parasite co-evolution, explore host immune responses, and introduce the diversity and characteristics of the major eukaryotic parasites of animals.

BIO 411 – “Principles of Wildlife Biology”

This course focuses on the basic principles of wildlife biology, wildlife management, and contemporary wildlife issues. The laboratory/field component includes an introduction to techniques used in wildlife research, habitat assessments and debates on local wildlife issues.

Qualifications:

• Applicants will hold an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in a field related to the respective course content
• Documented experience teaching these courses would be a definite asset
• Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster in the academic unit
