The Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island is seeking a highly qualified applicant for a research scientist position in bovine epidemiology with a focus on dairy herd health. 


The successful applicant will be a member of Maritime Quality Milk (MQM) and the Centre for Veterinary Epidemiological Research (CVER).  Maritime Quality Milk (MQM) is a leading centre for dairy health research and service in Canada, with a focus on the priorities of the regional dairy industry.  The successful applicant will join a multi-disciplinary team of epidemiologists, statisticians, bovine clinicians, microbiologists, and field and laboratory technicians whose work focuses on holistic approaches to assist the regional and Canadian dairy industries to improve the productivity and health of dairy cows, and to ensure excellent milk quality.

Key responsibilities:
• Design and develop research studies in response to the priorities and needs of the regional dairy industry.
• Prepare, review and edit research proposals.
• Develop research project budgets.
• Work with the Project Manager on research budget oversight.
• Apply advanced epidemiological and statistical methods to analyze data and interpret research results
• Prepare, review, and edit final research reports; prepare manuscripts for publication
• Communicate research results with stakeholders
• Supervise laboratory and field technicians; mentor and supervise student research assistants.
• Support graduate students in data analysis and scientific writing.


• Applicants must have a DVM and a PhD in epidemiology, or a related discipline, and strong quantitative skills.
• A demonstrated track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals would be an asset. 
• Expertise in dairy production diseases, particularly infectious diseases such as mastitis and Johne’s Disease is preferred. 
• Experience in conducting and overseeing multiple research projects simultaneously is desirable.
• Individuals must be self-motivated and able to work both independently and as an effective partner in the MQM team.
