The Island Studies Program in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a Sessional Instructor to teach IST 2010: Introduction to Island Studies – Fall 2019. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

IST 2010:  Introduction to Island Studies
This course introduces students to the emerging interdisciplinary and comparative study of islands and archipelagoes. It examines their cultures, geography, economies, historical development, environmental concerns, and systems of governance. It focuses on jurisdictions with varying degrees of self-government such as Barbados, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, the Isle of Man, Malta, and Prince Edward Island. This is a web-based online course.

The successful applicant should have a Doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or area of study, preferably in island studies, or in a related discipline. Those with a Master’s level degree and at least two years of teaching experience would also be considered for the position. Demonstrated experience teaching courses in an online format would be an asset.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the academic unit
