The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a sessional instructor to teach the following course in Winter 2017.

Please note this course is in the Certificate in Educational Leadership in Nunavut program and includes six hours of a pre-course reading/assignment, as well as 30 hours of face-to-face instruction. This course will be co-taught with another instructor.

The instructors will be asked to work closely with the UPEI Academic Lead in preparation for this course.  This includes pre-course conference calls and a debriefing conference call at the end of the course.   All course preparation will need to be completed two months before the start date of the course.  Depending on availability of flights and possible before and after-course instructor meetings, the time that the instructor(s) will be physically present in Nunavut will be up to a few days before and after the course dates.

ED 514R REFLECTIVE PRACTICE IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP FOR NUNAVUT

Participants propose, develop, and implement an approved reflective inquiry project.

This is a three-semester hour course offered in person in Iqaluit from February 11-16, 2017.

Qualifications:
Ideally, applicants for sessional teaching positions in the Certificate in Educational Leadership in Nunavut require recent, successful leadership and teaching experience within the K–12 system in Nunavut. An understanding of Inuit education and recent legislation, policies and curricula guiding school programs in Nunavut is necessary. The ability to understand, converse and write in Inuktitut as well as English is an advantage. This course, or portions of these courses, may be offered online using an online learning platform. Familiarity with this interactive, distance learning program used in the UPEI programs offered in Nunavut is important when communicating with the students. Previous successful online teaching experience is an asset.

Applicants will normally possess a graduate degree in education with a focus on Inuit educational leadership.  A high level of expertise related to the literature and scholarship in both action research and educational leadership in Nunavut, a comprehensive understanding of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit as it is applied in light of recent educational legislation and policy in Nunavut, and the ability to teach comfortably in a bilingual (Inuktitut/English) teaching environment with Inuit graduate students is are considered assets.

In all instances, qualified applicants on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the Faculty of Education will be given priority.

The offering of this course is conditional on final enrolment numbers. All sessional courses are subject to the final budgetary and administrative approval. The availability of sessional positions is conditional on the finalization of regular Faculty member workload distribution.
