The Faculty of Education is seeking a dynamic and multi-skilled individual to fill a full-time term contract position as International Student Academic Coach.

The Faculty of Education is committed to developing academically successful, compassionate, and innovative educators.  We offer 12-month Bachelor of Education (BEd) programs in English and French Education with specializations in Indigenous Education, International Education, and Adult Education. At the graduate level, we offer a Masters of Education (MEd) in Leadership in Learning program with course-based and thesis-based streams using online, onsite, or blended approaches. We also offer an on-site PhD in Educational Studies. The number of international students in these programs is increasing and there is a need for the Faculty of Education to develop and deliver online and face-to-face support to enable these students to be academically successful while learning a new culture and language.
Reporting to the Coordinators of the BEd and Graduate Studies (MEd and PhD) programs, the successful candidate will be primarily responsible for enabling the academic success of international students within the Faculty of Education. Support for domestic students may be provided as time permits. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Proactively maintain regular contact with international students to enable them to be academically successful
• Help to identify international student needs and recommend, plan, and implement or track their access to services (e.g., writing support) to excel academically and/or to adjust to life at UPEI and in Prince Edward Island
• Ensure that international students know UPEI academic guidelines and policies, such as Academic Honesty, Accessibility Services, and APA writing format, and appreciate the importance of compliance with policies
• Manage time to prioritize individualized or group support, particularly in academic reading and writing by international students, and refer students for additional academic and personal support services as needed
• Connect incoming and outgoing international students (for example through a buddy or mentoring program) and support international student social events
• Serve as a contact person for international students in emergency situations
• Maintain close communications, share information, and offer leadership to coordinate Faculty of Education support with the UPEI International Centre for English Academic Programs, university personnel, Student Services, and the International Relations Office including the UPEI English Academic Program (EAP)
• Develop and maintain ED 601 Workplace Learning and Leadership placements in collaboration with the Global Perspectives Cohort Academic Lead and the faculty member who will teach this course
• Assist in faculty development for supporting the academic success of international students in Faculty of Education programs
• Conduct surveys, collect data and prepare and present reports related to the academic success of international students
• Assist the BEd and Graduate Coordinators to evaluate key principles and processes for the academic success of international students in the BEd, MEd and PhD programs

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Grade 12 graduation plus completion of a recognized post secondary program in a related area is required plus a minimum of three (2) years relevant work experience, preferably in a University environment
• Graduate level writing would be considered an asset
• BEd would be considered an asset
• Certification in Teaching English as an Additional Language, or equivalent would be considered an asset
• Teaching experience in an internationalizing, multicultural environment.
• Valid driver’s license
