5 hours per week (Saturday and Sunday with provision to request time off)

$12.08 per hour (vacation pay included)

May 1, 2017 – April 30, 2019

The Department of Diagnostic Services is seeking a Student Assistant.


• Receiving and preparation of specimens for culture; primary culture of specimens; transferring culture plates; subculturing and inoculating of biochemicals using aseptic techniques under the supervision of a laboratory technologist
• assisting with bacterial identifications and antimicrobial susceptibility testing under the supervision of a laboratory technologist
• laboratory and clerical duties as required
• The job entails working with fresh animal tissue
• The successful applicant will be required to work on both Saturday and Sunday (approx 5 hours total)
• Familiarity with computer programs would be an asset


• completed second year of the DVM program or who have relevant bacteriology experience

Priority is given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and Procedures manual.
