The Comprehensive School Health Research (CSHR) Group in the School of Nursing is seeking a student research assistant to support knowledge exchange and research dissemination activities for the SHAPES-PEI (School Health Action Planning and Evaluation System – Prince Edward Island) project, a data collection and knowledge exchange system that assesses the health behaviours of grade 5-12 students across PEI. The student research assistant will be supervised by Dr. Jo-Ann MacDonald.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Carry out literature searches, internet and grey literature searches; organize references in RefWorks; synthesize literature
• Engage community partners in the development of new research dissemination tools
• Support the research and writing of a variety of research dissemination products
• Assist in the preparation of ethics applications, funding proposals, abstracts and conference posters/presentations, articles for publication, etc.
• Assist with data analysis plan and work with interpretation of the results

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree (completed or in-progress) in nursing, social science or related discipline
• A highly qualified 3rd or 4th year undergraduate student may be considered
• Experience in, and understanding of the basic principles of social science research
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to quickly learn and master various computer applications
• Must be eligible to work in a school setting (i.e. obtain a successful criminal record check)
• Knowledge of SPSS or data analysis software would be an asset
• French language proficiency would be an asset
