 The Chemistry Department requires a Research Assistant to assist with a Physical Chemistry research project with Dr. Brian Wagner involving exploring the soil-water interface using fluorescence spectroscopy.
To explore the use of fluorescence spectroscopy to study the soil-water interface region in aqueous soil mixtures, using various fluorescent probe molecules. The student will prepare analytical solutions and slurries of various soils in water and to measure absorption and fluorescence spectra, and analyze the results. Other responsibilities will include participation in group meetings, and maintenance of the laboratory working space and equipment.
The successful candidate should be a UPEI Chemistry Majors or Honours student, and have completed at least two years of their Chemistry program with a strong academic performance; successful completion of Chem 231 and Chem 221 are required. Laboratory experience with techniques such as UV-visible fluorescence spectroscopy and other analytical chemistry methods will be an asset.
