A Sessional Instructor is required to team teach (50%) the three-hour credit course - IS 6010 - titled Themes and Perspectives in Island Studies in the Fall Semester (September - December) of 2017. This course is the compulsory, introductory course for graduate students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Island Studies program at UPEI. This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.

ISLAND STUDIES 6010 – THEMES AND PERSPECTIVES IN ISLAND STUDIES
Through a careful selection of readings and presentations, this course explores contemporary and historical research questions and issues central to the interdisciplinary and comparative study of small islands and archipelagos.  Topics include islands' identity, characteristics, challenges, opportunities, cultures, geography, economics, history, environmental concerns, and governance systems.

Qualifications:
The successful applicant should have a multidisciplinary background, with a minimum of a Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant discipline or area of study, preferably in island studies, geography and /or environmental studies. A publishing, research and teaching background in the subject area would be an asset.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster in the academic unit.
