37.5 hours per week (9:15pm to 8:00am, 4 nights on / 4 nights off.  Shifts rotate over weekends and holidays, thus must be willing to work those shifts)
Salary:
$52,363 to $57,629 per annum as per CUPE 1870

The Veterinary Teaching Hospital requires an Animal Health Technicians to work nights to assist veterinarians by providing nursing care to animals in the barn, wards and ICU ensuring that all treatments and diagnostic procedures are carried out for the patients. The successful applicants will work between the Large Animal and Small Animal Hospital and this position involves rotating shifts (4 nights on/4 nights off).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under supervision, job responsibilities will include:

• Completing treatment orders for patients
• Ability to perform necessary nursing skills for the various levels of care required
• Monitoring and reporting to the clinician any abnormalities in animals during the night shift and in relation to the treatments and/or monitoring of animals
• Stock and maintain supplies and equipment in various locations including inventory management
• Maintain biosecurity standards and a high standard of cleanliness in the LA Hospital
• Routine cleaning of treatment and housing areas
• Update patient billing
• Assist in the maintenance of medical records
• Support veterinary students, technician students, and junior veterinarians participating in post-graduate programs with confidence and compassion
• Ability to provide anesthesia support in emergency situations
• Other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be a graduate of an Animal Health Technician program from a recognized facility
• RVT designation is required
• Strong computer skills with demonstrated ability in Windows and iOS Operating systems
• Previous experience with computerize medical records with preference to applicants with knowledge of RxWorks and Smart Flow
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must have a minimum of 3 years of experience working in a clinical setting with BOTH large and small animals and with the ability to provide anesthesia and emergency support in both areas
• Must have excellent veterinary technical abilities with large and small animal patients including venipuncture, fluid therapy, medication administration (including IV/IM/SQ), and animal handling and restraint
• Strong interpersonal skill
• Must be self-motivated
• Must be able to work as part of a team, but must also be able to work independently as required
