$55,319 to $60,839 per annum as per CUPE 1870

May 1, 2017 to April, 30, 2019 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements) 

Reporting to the Finance Officer, Research and Special Projects Funds, this position assists in the administration of the University’s research and special project accounts (both grant and contract based). The duties will be on an ‘as assigned basis’ covering the range of activities described below.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists Finance Officer in reconciliation and analysis of research and project account balances
• Assists in coordinating and monitoring unit workloads and associated deadlines
• Monitors accounts for funding availability and contract compliance
• Reviews budgets and expenditures, and monitors expenditures against budgets
• Prepares financial reports required by various funding agencies
• Monitors research accounts receivable, including invoicing & collections  
• Assists in coordinating of audit requests
• General account reconciliations as assigned
• Liaises with principal investigators, external funding agencies, and other University departments
• Sound knowledge of departmental and University regulations and policies
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum a university degree in Business with a focus in accounting and finance
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience, preferably in a University or similar setting
• Excellent analytical skills
• Detailed knowledge of and experience working  with computerized accounting systems, spreadsheets and database query programs
• Demonstrate excellent professional, interpersonal and communication skills. ability to work well with others while meeting regular deadlines
• Ability to work with limited supervision
• Familiarity with research accounting considered an asset
