The Psychology Department with the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a permanent part-time technician position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Recruit, coordinate and provide direction to student markers and student tutorial/lab leaders
• Coordinate and consult on lab designs
• Coordinate space and maintain by regular disassembly, repair, cleaning, storage and reassemble department lab equipment to facilitate the timely and efficient sharing of laboratory research and teaching space by students and faculty
• Serve as the department liaison technician for psychology’s specific equipment to other university departments such as IT Systems and Services
• Program, maintain and instruct others in the use of a variety of psychology applications packages used in psychological research and teaching
• Maintain department video/DVD library
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area ; equivalencies will be considered
• Relevant experience in animal care protocols; must have participated or be willing to participate in the University’s Animal User Training program
• Versatility in the use, maintenance and programming of software, in particular software appropriate to qualitative and quantitative psychology labs, e.g. SPSS, Nvivo, Matlab and Observer
• Skills in basic research methodology in all facets of psychology
• General technical skills, e.g. basic lab equipment maintenance
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to work with limited supervision
