The School of Sustainable Design Engineering (SSDE) at UPEI, located at 550 University Ave in Charlottetown, PEI, is a unique engineering education program.  The program is heavy linked to industry through an Advisory Council, the Design Clinic program, student work placements and Research and Development.

The School is currently seeking a well-rounded individual for the position of Business Development Engineer (BDE).  Working within the Industry Partnership group and under the direction of the Director of Industry Partnerships, the prime responsibility of the BDE is to establish and manage relationships with community and industry partners of the School.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Promote and explain the programs and services of the school to a variety of audiences
• Attend external industry engagement activities: conferences, networking events, trade shows, etc.
• Plan and host industry engagement activities
• Prepare and update promotional material in collaboration with Marketing and Communications: website, brochures, quarterly reports, etc.
• Conduct site visits with current and potential partners and identify and scope potential projects
• Receive project proposals and match them to the various services provided by the School
• Prepare and update contracts in collaboration with Risk Managers and Synapse (the intellectual property and commercialization wing at UPEI)
• Administer signing of contracts
• Coordinate student work placements

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Degree in Engineering or related degree - MEng and/or MBA is considered an asset
• Must be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in the Province of Prince Edward Island
• Demonstrated technical knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Advanced Manufacturing; Bio-Resources; Robotics and Industrial Automation; Sensors, Optics and Imaging and Sustainable Energy
• Experience with business development activities
• Strong analytical, documentation and presentation skills
• Strong verbal and written English is mandatory (fluency verbal and written in a second language would be considered an asset)
• Strong computer skills (MS Office, Sugar CRM, Google)
• Team oriented
• Ability to work independently and under pressure
• Willingness to travel
