Veterinary Summer Student Assistant(s)
Hours of Work: 

37.5 hours per week (irregular hours may lead to variable work weeks)

$10.74 per hour (vacation pay included)

May 6, 2013 for approximately 12-14 weeks

 Veterinary students are required to work with the AVC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences for up to 14 weeks this summer. We are anticipating a need for two students, depending on success in funding applications and interest of qualified individuals. A short list of qualified applicants will be created and students will be hired as the project is funded. The position(s) may be based out of St. Albans, NL or Charlottetown, PE. Students will be expected to travel to various marine aquaculture sites in Atlantic Canada providing an excellent opportunity to learn about regional aquaculture species and their associated fish health issues in a production setting.
The successful applicant(s) will assist with carrying out various aspects of data and sample collection for fish health production and diagnostic laboratory based research projects. Tasks are often repetitive and require attention to detail.
The successful candidates will have prior experience or documented strong interest in working with aquatic species in a research or production setting (field or laboratory), data entry and computer skills, organizational skills, record-keeping experience, fish farm or hatchery husbandry skills, and knowledge of farm biosecurity practices. Knowledge of boat handling and watercraft safety is an asset. The ability to work independently and also as a member of a team is required. A valid driver’s license is an asset.
