As soon as possible for 1 (one) year term (Term may be reduced or extended depending on satisfactory performance and available funding).

The University of Prince Edward Island, Facilities Management Department, is seeking applicants for the position of Maintenance Repair - Painting. This position requires an individual with formal training and demonstrated experience and skills related to preparing surfaces and applying decorative and protective finishes, ideally in commercial, institutional and/or industrial settings.  Knowledge of general building maintenance is an asset.  Employees in this class perform skilled labour duties in the maintenance, renovation, and repair of buildings and equipment. 


• Applies decorative and protective interiors/exterior/equipment finishes
• Prepare a variety of surfaces ( i.e. wood, masonry, drywall, plaster, concrete, synthetics, stucco and metal) prior to the application of materials such as paint, high performance coatings, waterproofing, fireproofing, varnish, shellac, wall coverings and specialty finishes
• Uses power and hand tools to carry out work
• Repairs to the building structure, constructs and installing wallboard, wall framing, ceiling grids, etc.
• Carries out maintenance, repairs and installation of wall coverings, wall protective systems and track systems. Installs white/bulletin boards, paper dispensers, keyboard trays, etc.
• Carries out maintenance and repairs to miscellaneous furniture and equipment such as chairs, tables, microwaves, beds, etc.
• Carries out initial investigation and minor repairs relating to plumbing, ventilation, and electrical systems, fire alarm systems and security systems
• Requisitions for material, supplies and tools relating to proposed or actual work being performed and inventory
• Such other duties as may be assigned by supervisor


• Grade 12 education diploma is required
• Diploma, Certificate or Journeyman Certificate/License in the painting trade or related trade from a recognized institution is required.  Preference will be given Red Seal certification as a painter
• Ten (10) years related experience preparing surfaces and painting is required.
• Computer software experience is an asset
• Educational and/or institutional environment experience is an asset
