 The University of Prince Edward Island is seeking applications from qualified candidates for the position of Director of Internal Audit. This senior level position will be responsible for the preparation and direction of a broad, risk-based, comprehensive program for internal auditing within the University.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Director will be responsible to plan, organize, supervise and conduct audits through detailed analysis and report on the University's internal audit activities carried out to evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of practices and controls in University financial, reputational, personnel and operating activities. The individual will be responsible for the preparation and direction of a broad, risk-based, comprehensive program for internal auditing within the University. The position has a dual reporting relationship. On an objective independent basis, the role will report to the Board of Governors. On a day-to-day administrative basis, the role will report directly to the President.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will:
• relevant university degree
• accounting designation (CA, CMA or CGA)
• Certified Internal Auditor or Certified Information Systems Auditor designation, preferred
• minimum of 5 years relevant experience in auditing or a combination of auditing and accounting/financial experience
• demonstrate a solid working knowledge of internal controls, control frameworks and risk assessment methodologies
• have a demonstrated ability to manage projects independently, in a timely manner to achieve objectives
• possess effective interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills
• possess effective communication skills with a proven ability to present/report to both senior management and members of the Board of Governors
• understand the importance of working in an environment that promotes respect, dignity and integrity
• have the ability to achieve positive outcomes by encouraging, supporting, coaching, developing and mentoring others
• have the ability to analyze and assess relevant variables to formulate a professional opinion on systems and operations
• possess the ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues using well developed discretion and judgement
