The Department of Chemistry invites applications from experienced, motivated and self-driven individuals to manage the laboratories and equipment in the Department of Chemistry, including maintenance of the 300 MHz NMR Spectrometer.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful Laboratory Supervisor will perform routine maintenance, repairs and training of students in the use of laboratory instrumentation, including the 300 MHz NMR, 60MHz NMR, FTIR and Mass spectrometers as well as other instruments such as UV/VIS, AA, HPLC, and GC. Responsibilities include overseeing the undergraduate laboratories (including preparing and setting up labs, helping to develop new experiments, and assisting in the preparation of laboratory manuals), hiring and supervising staff and student employees, managing the Department’s chemical inventory and hazardous waste disposal, purchasing supplies and equipment, developing safety procedures and conducting site safety training for student employees and researchers. The Laboratory Supervisor must be able to work independently and with other staff and faculty, and effectively balance and prioritize a wide variety of responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of a Master’s in Chemistry is required. Previous experience in laboratory management and supervision, including equipment maintenance and repair, is a strong asset. Experience in the operation of NMR spectrometers is required, and familiarity with routine maintenance procedures is a strong asset. Excellent organizational, time-management, interpersonal, communication and computer skills are required.
