Up to 20 hours per week for a total of 250 hours (schedule is flexible, within Library’s open hours)

$12.08 per hour (vacation pay included)

May 2, 2016 to August 31, 2016 or for the duration of the project, as required by the project progress

Librarian Melissa Belvadi is seeking a student to assist in the collection of data for the research project, “Validating a Myth: Do Books that Fail to Circulate in Their First Ten Years Ever Do So?”. The project aims to study the circulation (checkout) patterns of about 15,000 books that were acquired by the Library from 1991-1996 to determine if collection weeding decisions can be made heuristically based on circulation within the first ten years of library ownership.


• Find individual print books in the library's collection, given a list of call numbers
• Record specified information about those books onto worksheets
• Transfer the recorded information into an online spreadsheet


• Accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to stay on task for extended periods with minimal supervision
• Willingness to work alone in a quiet environment for extended periods
• Ability to reach up (including climbing on stools) and bend down to retrieve books from high and low shelves
• Basic computer skills

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and Procedures manual.
