The Faculty of Education is seeking a dynamic and multi-skilled teacher-librarian to fill a term contract position as Facilitator of the Education Learning Commons (ELC). 

The Faculty of Education is committed to developing caring, compassionate and innovative teachers.  We offer 12-month Bachelor of Education programs in English and French Education.  With specializations in Indigenous Education, International Education, and Adult Education, our undergraduate programs have a strong focus on issues pertaining to diversity, equality and social justice in local and global communities.  A Certificate in Adult Education is offered in partnership with Holland College.  At the graduate level, the faculty also offers a Masters of Education degree in both course-based and thesis-based streams, as well as a PhD program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Faculty ELC Liaison, the incumbent will be responsible for the daily operation of the Education Learning Commons (ELC).

This role includes:
• Helping students and faculty locate and use resources
• Managing circulation, compiling and maintaining user statistics
• Maintaining the automated circulation and resource management system
• Acquiring new resources in both official languages
• Recruiting, training and supervising student assistants
• Collaborating with students and Faculty to integrate both print and electronic learning resources into their teaching
• Responsibility for the Education Learning Commons section of the Faculty of Education webpage
• Creating and conducting workshops on specific topics as needed, and
• General management of the Centre
• The position also includes a significant technology support component. The
• incumbent will be required to assist students and faculty in the integration of
• technology (such as iPad applications) into the classroom

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will ideally have a Bachelor of Education degree with training, and experience in school librarianship, together with knowledge of and experience in the role of information technologies in teaching and learning. 

Essential skills are:
• The ability to interact collaboratively with faculty and students
• Knowledge and experience in library management and automation
• Understanding and awareness of curriculum and learning resources for
teachers, including current and classic children’s and adolescent literature, as
well as online and print non-fiction sources
• Expertise in the use of information and communication technologies for
teaching and learning
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
• Excellent communication skills
• The ability to read, speak and understand French will be considered a
significant asset
