May 4, 2014 to May 3, 2015 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements)

CLIVE is an interactive climate change visualization tool that allows users to see scenarios of future sea level, coastal erosion and storm surge for Prince Edward Island. CLIVE was developed in partnership with the University of Prince Edward Island; the PEI Department of Environment, Labour and Justice; the Mi’kmaq Confederacy of PEI; Geonet Technologies Inc. and DE Jardine Consulting. CLIVE was released through a public lecture on February 11, 2014 and there have been subsequent demands on the Climate Research Lab for additional visualization products. This position will provide the technical geographic information system support for the Climate Research Lab.


• Create map visuals for use in scientific papers and presentations.
• Develop an online 2D application of coastal erosion data and Sea Level Rise information.
• Assist in the development of online tools for use on the Climate Research Lab’s website.
• Use video game software, Unity 3D, along with GIS software to create visualizations of climate and other environmental data.
• Use programming to automate workflows and manage large GIS datasets.
• Conduct GIS analysis and create reports for use by stakeholders. (watershed analysis, viewshed analysis, flood risk mapping, habitat suitability analysis)
• Assist in data collection, processing, and weather system installation.
• Provide technical support for the lab.
• Assist in stakeholder meetings and deployment of CLIVE.
• Provide CLIVE training.


• University of college level courses in the area of  Geographic Information Systems
• Specialization or technical training in geographic information systems.
• Knowledge of Unity 3D.
• Experience working in a research environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work with limited supervision
