The Department of English invites applications for the position of Sessional Instructor to teach one (1) section of English 2120 (Creative Writing I) in the Fall 2019 Term. The course is scheduled for Wednesday 6:00 to 9:00 pm. This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval

2120 CREATIVE WRITING I
This workshop in creative writing provides students with the opportunity to develop their proficiency in writing fiction, poetry, drama, or creative non-fiction. Students produce and revise new material and present these manuscripts to the work- shop. Class time is devoted to discussion of students' manuscripts and published texts and to strategies and structures involved in writing them.
PREREQUISITE: At least one 1000 level English course, submission of a portfolio (e.g., 5-10 pages of poetry, 10-20 pages of fiction or scriptwriting, or 10-20 pages of creative non-fiction), and permission of the instructor
3 hours credit

Applicants for this position should have a minimum of either a Master’s degree in English, preferably including creative writing courses and/or workshops, and a publishing record of poetry and/or fiction; or a significant publishing record of poetry and/or fiction, and post-secondary creative writing courses and/or workshops. Publishing credits must be professional credits. Applicants should possess significant experience teaching creative writing at the post-secondary level or substantial experience in post- secondary creative writing courses and/or workshops. Applicants should possess the ability to evaluate and edit student writing. The ability to mentor emerging writers will be considered an asset.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster in the academic unit.
