EAL Instructors - Spring/Summer Explore English as an Additional Language Program
Hours of Work: 

Full time term position, with some evenings and weekend work required

$5,539 for 6 week term or $11,078 for 12 week term. (vacation pay included)

This competition will be used to staff both the Spring and Summer programs. Fewer positions are available for the Spring session.  Full term instructors will be hired for the period of May 24, 2016 to August 18, 2016. Additional positions will be added for the Summer Program July 4, 2016 – August 18, 2016.

The University of Prince Edward Island, through the Office of Skills Development and Learning, is seeking EAL Instructors for its youth Spring/Summer Explore English as an Additional Language Program.

Two Explore Programs will be offered in 2016 for Canadian and International students; a spring program for those 19 years of age and older and a summer program for those 16 – 17 years of age.  Participants have formal EAL lessons weekday mornings and organized socio-cultural activities during weekday afternoons, evenings and weekends.  EAL Instructors are responsible for the planning and delivery of daily lessons, and the organization of one three hour workshop each week.


• EAL instruction
• Curriculum design and development in collaboration with the Academic Coordinator   
• Curriculum evaluation and revision
• Facilitation of a weekly workshop and extra-help session
• Formative and summative evaluations of student achievement
• Participation in weekly staff meetings
• Participation in a minimum of one socio-cultural activity one evening per week
• Some evening and weekend work required in addition to regular teaching duties
• Chaperone a weekend trip to Halifax with Explore students and staff
• Chaperone a minimum of one overnight activity
• Acting as a role model to students and staff by upholding and reinforcing the rules and regulations of the Explore Program
• Creating a positive learning environment
• Other duties as assigned by the Academic Coordinator or Program Coordinator


• B.Ed or other degree with equivalent work experience
• EAL teaching experience
• Proficiency in English
• Current First Aid and CPR certification

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

• ESL teaching certificate
• Experience working in cross-cultural settings
• Class 4 Driver's License - to drive a 15-passenger van
