The Department of Pathology & Microbiology is seeking applications from interested candidates for casual work with the project, “Genomic tools to resolve environmental impacts and treatment resistance in sea lice”. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Mark Fast.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Fish feeding, maintenance and necropsy
• Aquaculture site visit and lice collection and transport
• Pipetting
• RNA and DNA extractions
• PCR and qPCR
• Tissue trimming

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to work flexible hours
o Hours of work may be outside normal day working hours (afternoon shift), and or on weekends.
o Hours of work will vary depending on staff availability and demands of the project
• DVM student or undergraduate student in biology preferred
• Demonstrated interest in basic laboratory techniques.
• Ability to be trained in basic laboratory techniques, such as pipetting.
• Willingness to be trained and to follow established laboratory safety procedures under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and/or Lab manager.
• Ability to pay attention to detail as the work sensitive to error.
• The ability to perform highly repetitive simple procedures.
