Post Doctoral Fellow - Infectious Disease Epidemiology of Salmon Pathogens

The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is seeking a highly-qualified applicant for a post doctoral fellow position in infectious disease epidemiology in the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) program in Aquatic Epidemiology.  The goal of the CERC program is to make UPEI and Canada the global leader in applied aquatic epidemiology research (with an ecosystem health focus).

The successful individual will join a multi-disciplinary team of epidemiologists, epidemiological modelers, statisticians,  finfish and shellfish clinicians, ecosystem health and regulatory veterinary medicine specialists whose work focuses on holistic approaches to assist the Canadian and international aquaculture industries improve the productivity, sustainability and health of aquatic food animal stocks.  The post doctoral fellow will contribute to 2 major multi-institutional grants involving academic, industry and government partners related to modelling of spread of pathogens in the marine environment, including interactions between farmed and wild fish, and evaluation of mitigation strategies to reduce disease risk.

The selected candidate must have:
• A PhD in epidemiology, or a related discipline, with strong quantitative and modelling skills
• Experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary group with demonstrated abilities to communicate with individuals with diverse backgrounds
• Experience in modelling transmission of fish pathogens is an asset, but not a requirement
• Must be self-motivated and able to work both independently, and as an effective partner in the UPEI CERC team

This post-doctoral assignment will start as soon as possible until March 31, 2019 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and project requirements).  A competitive post-doctoral stipend will be funded on a per annum basis for the duration of the assignment.
