The University of Prince Edward Island is looking for the right candidate to take on an exciting new permanent position of “Industrial Research Technician” in the School of Sustainable Design Engineering. Reporting to the Director of Industrial Research and working with researchers in the four Research Centres of Excellence: Robotics; Food Processing; Sustainable Energy; and Sortation, this individual would be responsible for the installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of manufacturing, processing, material handling and testing equipment in the Centres. This individual will also provide support in the selection of all equipment and will oversee an equipment monitoring program.


• Installation, commissioning and safe operation of complex industrial equipment, including data collection, recording, analysis, and report preparation and presentation.
• Scheduling of experiments/testing using the equipment.
• Working with research personnel and clients on industry-related projects.
• Training researchers, clients and other personnel on the safe use of equipment.
• Maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and repair of equipment.
• Overall operation of the Centres of Excellence, including ordering supplies and maintaining an up-to-date inventory of supplies.


• Two-year community college diploma in a relevant engineering technology field such as electro-mechanical technology.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience.
• Knowledge of and experience with equipment and operations related to robotics, food processing, sustainable energy or sortation in an industrial research and development environment.
• Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
• Demonstrated creative, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to multi-task, coordinate projects and function professionally in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment.
• Excellent computer skills.
