The University of Prince Edward Island is seeking applicants from qualified individuals to provide timely and efficient operations of the Accounts Payable unit within the Financial Services.  This position will report to the Assistant Manager, Procurement and Payment Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise accounts payable clerks and distribute workload amongst clerks
• Train on business processes, and guide staff on following University policies and procedures
• Ensure proper systems and procedures are used to perform operations efficiently within Accounts Payable
• Coordinate timely payments and reimbursements via cheque runs
• Understand and apply appropriate HST provisions including rebates, input tax credits and self-assessment
• Update and reconcile faculty PDTR accounts
• Process moving and relocation claims
• Sound knowledge in CBSA regulations and other customs obligations related to importation of goods and services
• Good understanding of withholding tax regulation
• Prepare T4A and T4A- NR forms, and process CRA remittances
• Address inquiries from internal and external customers, both verbally and in writing, within a timely manner
• Sound knowledge of departmental and University regulations, standard operating procedures, and policies
• Process invoices and reimbursements during peak volume times
• Assist in payments of international wire transfers, US cheques and bank drafts
• Reconcile external and internal documentation on daily/weekly/monthly basis
• Perform necessary year end procedures, including report preparation and account reconciliations
• Verify information for accuracy, and follow up on incomplete documentation
• Process payments of a confidential nature
• Other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Successful completion of a two year business administration or accounting program
• Minimum of three years current accounts payable experience, preferably in a University or similar setting
• Minimum two years supervisory experience required
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Exceptional customer service skills
• Clear understanding of importance of discretion and confidentiality
• Sound knowledge of departmental and University policies and procedures is considered an asset
• Detailed knowledge of, and experience working with, computerized accounting systems and Excel
• Knowledge of Customs, CBSA and CRA guidelines
• Incumbent must work well under pressure and efficiently manage time to meet given deadlines
