RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Officer will coordinate and provide guidance on all matters related to recruitment and employment at UPEI; oversee applicable aspects of the HR information systems (HRIS and attendance databases); support and participate in labour relations issues and collective bargaining as required; provide direction to unit supervisors on campus and HR support staff on related issues, support other areas and duties of the Human Resources function as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The role of HR Officer is a critical position in the department of Human Resources and is one of two more senior positions within the department that report to the Director.  The work requires a thorough knowledge of the recruitment and classification processes, a thorough knowledge of HRIS systems, collective agreements, government legislation and regulations.  The applicant should also possess a sound knowledge of benefit plan administration and employer contractual obligations.  The incumbent must possess excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, as well as organizational skills and be able to participate as a team member.  Computer word processing, spreadsheet, and database skills and mathematical skills are also required. A Degree/Diploma in Business Administration or equivalent experience, preferably in Human Resources Management, and 5-7 years’ experience in a Human Resources department is required for this role.
