Hours of Work: 

35 hours per week* (May 5, 2014 - August 24, 2014)
   5 hours per week* (August 25, 2014 - April 30, 2015)
   * Schedule may vary & include some evening and weekend hours.

$10.74 per hour (vacation pay included)

The student will be required to co-ordinate a counseling, training and enrichment program for dogs at the PEI Humane Society under the supervision of the shelter manager.   Duties at the shelter will be diverse and may include:
• Counseling of potential dog adopters & provision of support to adopters coping with behavioural issues in the home
• Performing behavioural assessments of shelter dogs
• Training and providing enrichment for the dogs being held for adoption at the shelter
• Maintenance of records (behavioural assessments, dog bios & training records)
• Development of educational display materials
• Investigation of practical ways to enrich the shelter environment
• Assisting in volunteer orientations at the shelter
• Participating in public education efforts


• Minimum first year standing in the DVM program.
• Experience in the application of operant conditioning with a secondary reinforcer (clicker training) is preferred.
• Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in shelter issues and the importance of behaviour modification.
• A high standard of professionalism as well as excellent communication skills are essential.
