The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is the coordinating institution for a Major Collaborative Research Initiative funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. The 7-year project, titled Advancing Interdisciplinary Research in Singing (AIRS), is unfolding through the cooperation of some 70 researchers and various other stakeholders from over a dozen countries, and under the direction of Professor. Annabel Cohen, Department of Psychology, UPEI. Its overall objective is to facilitate and coordinate a variety of initiatives exploring the relationship between singing and three research themes: development, education and well-being. The position of Student Technical Assistant – Web Site Support is required to support the communications and information management needs of the project. This is an opportunity to be part of a large international research network based at UPEI.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
An individual is required who is skilled in information technology, who has good interpersonal and communication capabilities and can appreciate the technology needs of a network of researchers and address those needs through optimal co-ordination of a host of technical resources at hand.
Responsibilities are:
(1) Maintenance of the AIRS Web site (Virtual Research Environment),
(2) Maintenance of the Digital Library site,
(3) Development of online questionnaires and associated data collection and spreadsheet applications.
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, adaptable, punctual, and a team player who can meet deadlines and who possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.
Flexible hours on occasion to meet deadlines or support evening or weekend meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must have demonstrated competency in use of computer applications, including but not limited to: Word-processing and spreadsheet applications, merging data between applications, and familiarity and comfort with relational databases.
Interested candidates should have facility and knowledge of a proven ability to learn: Drupal CMF version 6.x and associated commonly-used contributed modules; Adobe Connect video conferencing software; Windows XP, Vista, 7; Mac OS 10.4.x and up; general familiarity with GNU/Linux and Unix; general hardware/software troubleshooting skills; audio-video technology; Adobe Creative Suite products; Web-oriented programming languages, including PHP, XML, HTML, CSS, JavaScript; and the ability to configure and support all components of the Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP (LAMP) stack.
Past university course work in computer science and information technology would be an asset. Additional assets include: French/English bilingualism and interest/experience in music.
