The Department of Student Affairs at the University of Prince Edward Island has a one year maternity leave opening for a Counsellor to join the team of professionals providing supports and services to our students. This is a replacement position for a one year term.
Core responsibilities will include the provision of short term counselling and advising services to students experiencing a variety of personal, academic and educational concerns. Additional activities may include the delivery of group programs, outreach activities, crisis intervention, and consultations with faculty and staff.
The Department is home to a team of professionals from a variety of fields along with several support staff. We consider our various services as existing on a continuum of supports rather than as discrete entities. In addition to intra-department collaboration, we pride ourselves on the success of joint efforts with other campus units as well as with the broader community.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A degree at the Masters level in Counselling or Social Work along with the related professional designation and at least three years in a post secondary environment is required. The successful candidate will possess skills and clinical experiences that will complement those of the current Counselling and Student Affairs staff. The ideal candidate will possess a background working with university students experiencing such issues as depression, anxiety, relationship/family difficulties, academic challenges and decision-making, sexuality concerns, assault and substance abuse. Formal training in the Myers Briggs Type Personality Inventory would be considered an asset.
We seek an individual with well developed assessment, listening, observational, therapeutic counselling and interview skills with the flexibility to respond to the changing demands of this dynamic environment. We value a demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Previous experience in a university setting is preferred. Some evening hours may be required.
