Tenure Track Position

The University of Prince Edward Island’s history features many intersections with members of First Nations communities. The University has relied on its connections with Aboriginal peoples to advance its educational mission in the province, region, country, and around the world. Within UPEI, the UPEI Faculty of Education has a long tradition of dedicating energy and resources to create programming to support Indigenous students and conducting research with Indigenous peoples. Both the Faculty of Education and Faculty of Nursing are actively engaged in supporting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action in curriculum, research and service.

The Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island welcomes applications for a faculty member with expertise in nursing and Indigenous education. The successful candidate will teach, and contribute to research and service, in both Faculties through a cross-appointment. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

The successful candidate will join the Sisters’ Teaching and Knowledge Garden at UPEI. This joint initiative of the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Nursing, Faculty of Science, and Faculty of Arts will be centred on infusing Indigenous ‘ways of knowing’ into the academy, as well as supporting Indigenous students on their journey to and through post-secondary education.

Faculty of Education

The Faculty of Education is committed to developing caring, compassionate and innovative teachers. We offer 12-month Bachelor of Education programs in English and in French Education. With specializations in Indigenous Education, International Education, and Adult Education, our programs have a strong focus on issues pertaining to diversity, equity and social justice in local and global communities. At the graduate level, the Master of Education degree is offered in both course-based and thesis-based streams. We also offer a PhD in Educational Studies.

Faculty of Nursing

The Faculty of Nursing fosters an interactive academic environment that prepares nursing students to become critically reflective practitioners, advocates, educators, and professional leaders grounded in the principles of primary health care. Our mission is to generate, advance, and disseminate knowledge for excellence in nursing; to create an academic environment which encourages creative and critical inquiry; to provide leadership to a changing system of health care, and to extend our reach locally, nationally and internationally. We offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), and an Accelerated BScN program for students with a previous degree. Our Master of Nursing Program has two streams, a thesis and a nurse practitioner stream, which graduate advanced practice nurses expected to engage in leadership to influence clinical practice, academic and scholarly activities, policies, and the nursing profession.

Please visit the Faculty of Nursing at http://www.upei.ca/nursing/ and the Faculty of Education at http://www.upei.ca/education/ for additional information about our programs and people.
