The Department of Music at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a sessional instructor to teach the following course during the Winter 2018 Semester (January—April 2018).  This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.

MUSIC 321 Special Topics in Music History: The Business of Music
This course introduces students to the various dimensions of the commercial domain of music with the aim of helping them to prepare appropriately for a professional music career in the twenty-first century. Along with an historical overview of the music industry in North America, students explore such areas as recording and music production; artist representation/management; contracts; performance rights; project planning and fundraising strategies; and the effective use of promotional tools, including new media/social media.

The successful applicant will have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Music, experience in marketing/management in music and business/project planning, fluency with computer technology, and evidence of effective teaching at the university/college level.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster in the academic unit.
