Diagnostic Services invites applications from experienced and motivated medical Laboratory Technologists to provide technical and related laboratory services in the discipline of veterinary clinical pathology. This is a full-time permanent position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful Technologist will be primarily involved in routine processing of hematology, coagulation and cytology submissions and secondarily, biochemistry and urinalysis submissions from aquatic animals, livestock, companion animals, birds and wildlife.
The benchwork includes but is not limited to: preparation and staining of blood smears, morphological interpretation of stained blood smears, automated analysis (Sysmex XTV, Cobas 6000, Cobas c501) of the whole blood, serum and fluids, cytospin preparation of fluid and tissue aspirate submissions, analysis of coagulation samples and analysis of urine samples. Blood banking submissions are occasionally required. Daily running of Quality Control (QC) material, verification of QC protocols and troubleshooting QC materials and automated instruments are part of this position. Entry of patient demographics and results and printing of reports may be required as needed. Veterinary-specific training will be provided to the successful applicant.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Medical Lab Technologist (MLT) designation and three to five years of related diagnostic laboratory experience is required. The ability to work under minimum supervision, to multitask in other related duties and to troubleshoot technical issues at the bench and instrument levels are required. Good organizational, communication and computer skills are required. Experience in veterinary hematology, automated diagnostic hematology, chemistry and coagulation instruments and with cytologic preparation of fluids and tissues would be an asset. Experience with QC protocols, ISO standards and practical bench skills is desirable.
