The University of Prince Edward Island's new Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program (http://www.upei.ca/programsandcourses/doctor-of-psychology) invites applications for a staff clinical psychologist position to (i) provide direct clinical service and (ii) develop and implement student outreach initiatives on campus and beyond.  Although the Psychologist will be based within the newly established Psychology Training Clinic which will serve as a primary placement for clinical training of graduate students in the Doctor of Psychology program, much of the day to day work will take place throughout the campus community.  The psychologist will report directly to the Director of Training.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Approximately half-time in direct clinical work with students, faculty and staff, including supervision of the clinical work of graduate students. 

Duties within this responsibility include:

• Provision of a wide range of assessment, diagnosis, treatment and consultation services for a variety of mental health needs of varying severity, working within a multi-disciplinary health center team. Clients will be students, faculty and staff of the University, with the objective to expand to the broader community.  Clients will be diverse in cultural background and in other group and personal identities;
• Performing diagnostic interviews (structured and unstructured) with clients to collect relevant information which will aid in the diagnosis of mental health problems and illnesses;
• Choosing, administering, scoring, and interpreting psychological tests to assess cognitive abilities, achievement levels, attention abilities, emotional functioning, personality functioning, and mental health disorders within scope of practice;
• Creating comprehensive psychological reports which integrate all relevant material and provide useful recommendations to the client and other systems;
• Using substantive knowledge of numerous areas including development, mental illness, cognitive functioning,  behaviour, medical co-morbidity, and substance abuse; analyze and interpret the information to formulate clinical impressions and to develop and, as appropriate implement, treatment plans; and
• Maintaining and protecting confidential records and case reporting consistent with policy, procedures, and ethical standards, as part of the case management process.      

Approximately half-time focused on the development and delivery of student mental health promotion initiatives.

Duties within this responsibility will include:

• Developing and coordinating mental health outreach activities across campus by all Doctor of Psychology students;
• Collaborating with key campus partners including Student Affairs and the Health and Wellness Centre to ensure mental health services (outreach activities as well as direct clinical work with clients) are present at all levels of the stepped care model of mental health adopted by UPEI;
• The completion of an initial (within the first year of appointment) and periodic campus mental health needs assessments which take into account existing campus expertise and resources while recognizing the shifting and emergent nature of mental health needs on a modern university campus community;
• Development of the capacity to address specific mental health needs as they are identified including frequent consultation with the academic and professional literature to identify empirically supported interventions that can be implemented, consultation with experts in specific clinical areas, and facilitation / provision of education and training as appropriate;
• Contributing to clinical research by Doctor of Psychology students that is directly related to mental health promotion;
• Ensuring that mental health outreach activities support the UPEI Doctor of Psychology program focus in cross cultural competencies and are founded in UPEI's values of Inclusion, Equity, and Reconciliation; and
• Participation in a Presidential Advisory Group that will help to inform mental health and wellness priorities and policies at UPEI.
