The University of Prince Edward Island is seeking an individual to serve as one of its International Student Advisors, in the International Relations Office (IRO).


• The International Student Advisor (ISA) will join the IRO team to support and advise international students in their orientation to, and success at, the University of Prince Edward Island
• The ISA will also assist other university service sectors to support international students. Responsibilities will include ensuring a smooth transition for international students, providing guidance and support, liaising with departments and faculties, and facilitating student participation in a range of social and cultural activities at UPEI and within the larger Island community
• The Advisor will also work with and support other programs relating to the welfare and success of our students, such as the Buddy Program and World University Services Canada (WUSC)


• A University degree in a relevant field (eg. Humanities, Social Sciences, Education)
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a university environment. A combination of education and professional work experience relevant to this position will also be considered
• Experience in personal counseling, mediation, and/or conflict resolution
• Experience working with international students and/or a multicultural population
• Superior interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
• Ability to work independently
• An understanding of and sensitivity toward cross-cultural situations
Ideally the candidate will have a RISIA or RCIC designation or one in progress
• The ability to communicate in a language or languages other than English, and/or a previous experience in a foreign country, would be considered an asset
