Sessional Instructor - Department of History & Classics - Faculty of Arts (Fall 2018) *AMENDED*
The Department of History and Classics at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a sessional instructor to teach the following course during 2018 Fall session. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.
HIST 3090-1 Special Topics: Hockey, History and Canadian Identity (Cross-listed with Canadian Studies as CST 3090)
This course examines Canadian identity through the lens of its national winter sport. Beginning with an examination of the sport’s contested origins in the 19th century and continuing through the 20th century, the course explores issues and concepts such as hockey’s relationship with race, culture, language, gender, and violence, the evolution of hockey as a business, as well as the impact of its internationalization.

Successful applicants should have a minimum of a Master’s degree in Canadian History or Canadian Studies, and teaching and/or research experience in the field of Canadian social and cultural history and/or the history of hockey from a social history perspective.
Qualified applicants on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the Department of History and Classics will be given priority.
