Approximately 8-10 hours per week. Library is open until
11p.m. Sun. – Thurs.; 8 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Sat.
Shifts will range from 1-7 hours. Hours may fluctuate with Library requirements
Training could begin in December. Work will continue through the Winter term with possible renewal for subsequent terms, based on job performance and employment eligibility.
The Robertson Library requests resumes and cover letters -- addressing the responsibilities and qualifications in this job posting for student positions for the upcoming Winter semester. This competition will also create a list for possible future openings that will remain in effect until September 30, 2015. Some evening and/or weekend work will be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Successful candidates will learn how an academic library’s Circulation Dept. operates through involvement in a wide range of library routines and workflows, including:
• signing resources out and in
• interactions with patrons
• re-shelving of returned items
• responding to routine library-related questions
• other related duties, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• An open and willing attitude
• Punctuality, flexibility, and initiative.
• Ability to take direction
• Ability to perform repetitive work while retaining careful attention to detail
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Physical ability to handle heavy library materials, book carts, etc. and to stand for extended periods of time
• Experience working with computers is required of all Library student assistants. Experience working in an academic library, or related public service experience, and working with cash would be assets.
