Salary: 
All travel and accommodation costs will be covered including expenses such as immunization, phone calls, internet use, and in-country travel. There is no per hour wage for these positions. These positions are contingent on receiving final budgetary approval and the approval of the partner NGO, Farmers Helping Farmers. An alternate student will be selected in case one of the successful applicants cannot accept the position.
Term: 

June 2013 to August 2013 [three-month (90 day) term]

 The International Relations Office is seeking applications for students to work in Kenya through the Students for Development Program (SFD). Financed by the Canadian International Development Agency, Students for Development is a way for Canadians to work toward CIDA’s poverty reduction goals in areas of increasing food security and securing the future of children and youth in developing countries. UPEI has applied for funding to support seven student internships in 2013, two of which are nursing oriented.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working in conjunction with Farmers Helping Farmers in Kenya, students will be given the opportunity to connect with local non-governmental organizations. The two internship positions will include School of Nursing students doing clinical practicums in a local rural hospital in Kiirua, as well as conducting out reach support in the surrounding community in the areas of children’s and women’s health and HIV/AIDS.

QUALIFICATIONS:
This opportunity is open to third year undergraduates in the Nursing program. Candidates must be full-time students in academic good standing, have strong clinical evaluations in the School of Nursing and be Canadian citizens. The ideal candidates will have experience in international travel, the ability to work independently, exceptional communication skills, and a strong desire to live within another culture for three months. The students should be flexible and be able to adapt to new surroundings. Experience in International Development and understanding how organizations work is desirable, but not required.
Priority to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and Procedures manual.
