Equity and Diversity Advisor - Human Resources Department *AMENDED CLOSING DATE*
The Equity and Diversity Advisor reports to the Associate Vice President Human Resources and Legal and is responsible for advancing equity, diversity and inclusion within the University community. The Advisor will provide leadership in areas of equity, diversity, inclusion and human rights, including the development and implementation of policies, programs and practices. This position provides expertise, guidance, advice and counsel to members of the University community. The position is also responsible for the administration of the University’s Fair Treatment Policy.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Creates and leads an appropriate strategy on diversity, equity, inclusion and human rights for the University.
• Designs and leads initiatives regarding diversity, equity, inclusion and human rights
• Develops, revises and delivers policies in consultation with relevant stakeholders, to ensure that the university meets its obligations and, wherever possible, meets best practices in relation to diversity, equity, inclusion and human rights
• Provides leadership and oversight to ensure compliance with policies and legislation
• Acts as the administrator of the University Fair Treatment Policy
• Collaborates with and provides assistance to supervisors and Human Resources to support innovative strategies to successfully recruit, employ and retain a workforce reflective of changing provincial and national demographics
• Work with search committees to ensure and deliver appropriate equity and diversity training and support throughout the hiring process
• Ensures the development and delivery of training programs and professional development opportunities in the areas of diversity, inclusion, human rights and equity
• Analyzes trends and issues, identifying patterns and systemic problems and provides recommendations
• Prepares recommendations for improvements in employment practices and learning environments
• Works with faculty and staff in order to promote a respectful workplace
• Collaborates with the Office of the Vice President Administration and Finance in the development of budget, including budget projections
• Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Graduate Degree in equity or diversity studies or other related discipline
• Law degree would be an asset
• Certification and training in Alternative Dispute Resolution and direct and relevant experience in organizational conflict management
• A minimum of 5 - 7 years’ experience in areas related to diversity, equity, inclusion and human rights. Experience in post-secondary institutions is preferable
• Experience in the design and delivery of educational programs in the areas of diversity, equity, inclusion and human rights
• Working knowledge of collective agreements, relevant legislation, regulations and policies
• Experience in facilitating conflict resolution through counsel, coaching and mediation. Demonstrated judgment, analysis and decision-making skills.
• Ability to research, identify and implement best practices with respect to equity, diversity and inclusion
• Outstanding interpersonal and communications skills and emotional intelligence. Demonstrated ability to build rapport with various stakeholders, motivate people and diffuse escalating situations.
• Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion regarding confidential matters
