Sessional Instructor - Department of History & Classics - Faculty of Arts (Winter 2019)
The Department of History & Classics at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a sessional instructor to teach the following course during the 2019 Winter Term (Jan 3 - April 24):
Course: HIST 3090-3 - “Special Topics: The American Presidency” (cross-listed as POLS 3090-2)
This course examines the development of the U.S. presidency and the rise of executive power from the origins of the office in the wake of the American Revolution through the present day. Using a case study approach tied to pivotal moments and key themes in American politics, it assesses the role of the president as an individual strategic actor within the framework of the American political system, using as a lens the presidents’ impact on cultural, military, and political institutions. Significant officeholders are considered within the context of their technological, cultural, and political environment in order to trace the rise of the "Imperial Presidency."
Qualifications:
Successful applicants should have a minimum of a Master’s degree in History or a related discipline, and teaching and/or research experience in the field of American political history. Qualified applicants on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the Department of History & Classics will be given priority.
This position is subject to budgetary approval.
