The University of Prince Edward Island is currently seeking a Dean to lead its Faculty of Arts. The initial search will be open to current full time faculty members at UPEI, with tenure at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

The term of office of the Dean shall be six years with a formal review after three years.

The Faculty of Arts ( at UPEI is an active and dynamic group of people with a proven record of excellence in teaching, scholarly activity and outreach.  The Faculty is composed of approximately 78 full-time faculty and 100 sessional instructors who offer a wide variety of predominantly undergraduate programs of study in the humanities, social sciences, and performing arts. The University houses 24 major and minor degree options from a range of diverse fields both within and across traditional disciplinary boundaries, in addition to a one-of-a-kind Master of Arts program in Island Studies. As well as providing a high-quality education to the approximately 1,300 Arts majors, the Faculty plays a significant service role by teaching students from across the University. The Faculty of Arts is proud of its students and their achievements. The record demonstrates that our students go on to various rewarding careers and many go on to successful futures in graduate and professional programs. The Faculty is dedicated to the ongoing development of critical and engaged inquiry at every level, and is strongly committed to a shared vision of the important role that Arts plays in the larger university community and beyond.

Reporting to the Vice-President Academic, the Dean will have a personal passion for teaching and an ability to continue building a student-centred approach to the Faculty and the University. The Dean will be an advocate for the Faculty of Arts within the context of her/his broader role as a member of the senior management team. The ability to fashion a vision for Arts in a collegial manner is essential. The Dean will bring his/her commitment to excellence in scholarship and community service to the position.  A PhD designation or equivalent, a proven track record of administrative leadership and strong research and teaching records are requirements for this position.
