The Comprehensive School Health Research (CSHR) Group in the School of Nursing (under the direction of Dr. Jo-Ann MacDonald) invites applications from students interested in working on a project assessing the health behaviours of PEI students. The School Health Action Planning and Evaluation System – Prince Edward Island (SHAPES-PEI) is a biennial, classroom-based survey that assesses physical activity, healthy eating, mental fitness, and substance use behaviours among grades 5-12 students.


• The successful applicants will assist with all aspects of implementing the 2014-15 SHAPES-PEI project, including: maintaining positive relationships with school administrators and staff; assisting in the preparation for data collections at each school; attending school data collections and implementing procedures on data collection days, including resolving problems as they arise; and communicating all problems or concerns to the project coordinator.
• Applicants may be required to perform other duties related to the research activities of the CSHR Group, such as literature reviews, utilizing reference management software, and general office duties (filing, faxing, photocopying, etc).


• Working towards a university degree, or equivalent, in nursing, health promotion, social sciences, or education, preferably with courses and/or experience in research design, implementation, and methods. 
• Familiarity with the school system and working in schools is an asset.  Experience in conducting quantitative research and collecting data is an asset as well. 
• Understands the basic principles of conducting social science research
• Communicates effectively both orally and in writing
• Works independently and is able to follow detailed protocols, with minimal supervision
• Time management and organization skills
• Identifies and relates concerns of others and exercises good judgment when resolving difficulties
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must be eligible to work in a school setting (i.e. obtain a successful police background/criminal record check)
• French language proficiency would be an asset
